WHAT IS A FIBER OPTIC SPLITTER?

A fiber splitter is a passive component device that takes a single fiber signal and divides it into multiple signals, much like a coax cable transmission system.  The Optical Splitter is a tandem device with multiple input or output terminals.

WHAT IS A FIBER SPLITTER USED FOR?

A fiber optic splitter is used to distribute or combine optical signals in various applications, especially applicable to a passive optical network (EPON, GPON, BPON, FTTX, FTTH etc.) to connect the MDF and the terminal equipment.

HOW DOES A FIBER SPLITTER WORK?

Fiber splitter allows a single PON network interface to be shared among many subscribers without the use of electronics or power. Their key parameters include the optical loss, splitting ratio, isolation and PDL.

WHAT ARE THE AVAILABLE TYPES OF SPLITTERS?

PLC (Planar Lightwave Circuit) and FBT (Fused Biconic Tapered) are the two basic technologies for building PON splitters.

PLC SPLITTERS

PLC splitters offer a better solution for applications where larger split configurations are required.  To achieve this, waveguides are fabricated using lithography onto a silica glass substrate, which allows for routing specific percentages of light.  As a result, PLC splitters offer accurate and even splits with minimal loss in an efficient package.

FBT SPLITTERS

FBT is the traditional technology in which two fibers are placed closely together and fused together by applying heat while the assembly is being elongated and tapered. FBT splitters are widely accepted and used in passive networks, especially for instances where the split configuration is smaller (1×2, 1×4, etc).

ARCHDALE, NC (1-16-13) – TelExpress, Inc. recently completed construction on two photovoltaic solar energy systems at their Archdale, NC facility.  Combined electric power generated is 80 kilowatts (kW).  The rooftop installations are comprised of 340 solar panels which will utilize 6,792 square feet of otherwise unused roof space.  On one building, solar panels are mounted to the flat TPO membrane roof using a non-penetrating ballast mount system. At the corporate headquarters, panels are mechanically attached to the pitched corrugated metal roof.  These installations will cover 95% and 48% of the power used by each building respectively.  During the 25 year life of the installations, 1,966 tons of carbon dioxide emissions will be saved, significantly reducing the company’s carbon footprint.

TelExpress offers the sale and rental of Cell on Wheels (COWS) Mobile Towers. This is a cost effective portable solution which can be rapidly deployed at a mobile site in less than two hours.

COWS consist of a mini telecom tower that is folded with the antenna and mounted behind a truck. Sometimes, the truck also houses a generator set to provide power to the equipment.

These provide increased signal strength in areas where network maintenance is being done and are used for temporary situations such as special events, major sporting events, or disaster areas.

TelExpress CEO Sherry Clinard participated in a Fund Raiser this past weekend for MIA (Mammograms in Action).  The Event was called Barbells for Boobs and was held at Sherry’s local Crossfit gym (College Hill Crossfit).  This event was a competition which included two of crossfit’s women named workouts combined, “Helen meets Grace”, and the event raised over $2700 dollars.  The money helps the fight against Breast Cancer by providing additional funding for mammogram screenings for those who do not qualify for government funding, are unable to afford the service, or don’t meet current age requirements for screening.

TelExpress employee Susan Smith participated this past weekend in the Bark for Life, a Canine Event to Fight Cancer.  This is part of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Fundrasing events.  The entire event, held in Davidson County, raised over $10,900 dollars to help find cancer cures dogs.  The event also gives canine cancer survivors a chance to get out and play with others!  Susan walked in the event with her husband Richard, and their recently adopted dog  Buddy, who is a beautiful Great Pyrenees.
